Website Design for Education

iPlan is a resource hub developed by the Fresno County Office of Education (FCOE), aimed at helping educators and administrators streamline their planning processes. While working at Bitwise Industries, I led the complete redesign of iPlan’s user interface and user experience. My focus was on creating a modern, intuitive platform that would accommodate users of all technical backgrounds, ensuring a seamless interaction with the site’s tools and resources.

Objectives

• Redesign the iPlan website to improve usability and visual appeal.
• Simplify access to complex tools and resources for educators and administrators.
• Ensure the platform is user-friendly for both tech-savvy and less experienced users.
• Incorporate ADA compliance for a fully accessible experience.

Strategy

As part of the UX/UI design team at Bitwise Industries, I analyzed the existing iPlan platform, identifying usability challenges and opportunities for improvement. I collaborated with stakeholders at FCOE to understand their goals and user needs. Using Figma, I developed a clean and modern design that streamlined the navigation and enhanced user interactions with key tools.

Key design elements included:

• Simplified navigation for easier access to resources.
• A responsive layout, optimized for both desktop and mobile use.
• Clear and accessible design elements, ensuring ADA compliance.
• A clean, modern visual approach that reflects FCOE’s commitment to innovation in education.

Results

The redesign received positive feedback from educators and administrators, who appreciated the platform’s improved navigation and usability. The new design increased engagement with key tools and resources, making it easier for users to accomplish tasks efficiently. The platform now offers a more inclusive, accessible experience for all users, fulfilling FCOE’s mission to provide valuable digital tools for education.
