About the Project
CLAIR is a mobile app that helps users learn more about the fruits and vegetables they purchase by scanning the PLU sticker found on produce. The app allows users to journey through the origins of their produce, learning more about the growers and farms from all over the world. CLAIR aims to build stronger connections between consumers, growers, and the food they eat, focusing on education and motivating healthy eating habits. I was responsible for the UX/UI design, ensuring that the app’s experience was engaging and informative for both parents and growers.
Objectives
- Create an engaging and educational interface: Design an intuitive platform for users to scan produce stickers and learn about growers.
- Enhance the user experience for parents: Motivate children to eat more fruits and vegetables through interactive elements.
- Create a professional interface for growers: Showcase how growers can add CLAIR to their portfolio, revamping their commodities.
- Strengthen connections: Emphasize CLAIR’s mission of fostering relationships between consumers, produce, and growers through education and data sharing.
Strategy
For the design of CLAIR, I focused on making the app fun, friendly, and informative for a diverse user base, including families and growers. I introduced vibrant, fresh colors and playful illustrations of fruits and vegetables to appeal to parents and children, creating an inviting atmosphere. The app’s primary function, scanning the PLU sticker on produce, was designed to be as simple as possible, with clear instructions and large, easy-to-tap buttons.
To engage children, I incorporated interactive features, like animated characters, to make the learning process about fruits and vegetables more fun. Parents can use the app to motivate their kids by exploring different fruits, discovering their origins, and unlocking fun facts about each one. This gamified approach makes the app not only educational but also entertaining for younger users.
On the grower’s side, the design took a more professional tone. The interface for growers showcases the benefits of adding CLAIR to their portfolio, with features like personalized data pages, commodity revamps, and a visual representation of their impact on the consumers’ tables. The UI encourages growers to engage with their audience by creating a sense of connection between their produce and the consumers who enjoy it.
The core of CLAIR’s UX/UI design was to create a sense of community, reflecting its mission to “grow relationships from seeds to apples to you.” Through the app, users could seamlessly scan, learn, and share the story behind their food, reinforcing a bond between farm and table.
Results
The UX/UI design was well-received, particularly by parents, who appreciated the app’s ability to engage their children in learning about healthy eating. Children enjoyed the interactive elements and playful interface, motivating them to eat more fruits and vegetables. Growers found the app’s professional tools effective for presenting their commodities and strengthening relationships with consumers. CLAIR successfully created a platform that fosters a deeper connection between users and their produce, promoting a healthier lifestyle through education.
